Daily Lessons Explained

The daily lesson is the engine of your 12-week plan: about 15 focused minutes a day, built to be interactive from the first page to the last.

The daily shape

Each lesson day has 2 core interactive items, each taking about 6–7 minutes — roughly 13–15 minutes a day in total. Days may also offer 1–2 extra items marked "STRETCH · OPTIONAL": genuinely optional, there for the days you want more, never required to stay on track.

Inside an item

Each item runs 5–9 short pages, and you're doing something on almost every one of them:

  • Cloze — tap the missing word to complete the idea
  • Scenario decisions — choose what you'd do, then see the consequence play out
  • Predict-before-reveal — commit to an answer before the explanation appears
  • Reflect & apply — connect the concept to your own work
  • "Do this today" — one real-world action of 10 minutes or less, with a follow-up the next day worth +30 XP

Two rules hold everywhere: you'll never see more than 2 reading pages in a row, and every item ends with an applied scenario check — a "what would you do here?", never a definition to recite.

Questions are written in plain language: a short set-up of a sentence or two, then the question on its own line in bold. On pages where you answer something, the button at the bottom does the job first (Reveal, Check, Lock it in, Get feedback) and turns into Continue once you've answered.

Going back

Swipe or tap back to an earlier page and everything you did there is still in place: your choice, what you typed, the order you sorted, the roleplay so far. Going back never re-scores a page or makes you answer it again.

Listening instead of reading

Tap Listen on a reading page or most exercise pages to hear it read aloud in a natural voice: the set-up, the question, and the choices. Tap again to stop; moving to another page stops it too. It plays with your ringer on silent and lowers your music while it talks. Exercises built from lots of short cards (sorting, matching, ordering) and live roleplays don't have Listen. Code samples aren't read out symbol by symbol; you'll hear "There's a code example on screen" instead.

Read-aloud is part of GapFix Pro and the 7-day trial. On the free tier, tapping Listen shows what Pro includes. With no connection, GapFix falls back to your iPhone's built-in voice.

Code samples

Some lessons include code. It appears in a dark code card that scrolls sideways instead of wrapping, with a Copy button; file and function names in the text are shown in monospace.

The deeper drills

Lessons draw on the same interactive block library as Boosters, plus a few drills of their own:

  • Sequencing and categorizing — drag steps into the right order, or sort examples into the right buckets
  • Spot-the-error — tap the phrase that will cause the problem
  • The faded ladder — build the key line from word tiles, then tap the missing words back in, then type it from memory: the same line three times, with less help each time
  • Roleplay — a short dialogue with an AI counterpart, followed by a debrief on how it went
  • Rewrite — you rewrite a weak line in your own words, and the AI's feedback quotes your text against concrete criteria — specific feedback on your own words, never a grade

Roleplay and rewrite are the two deepest mechanics, and they're reserved for lessons. The hardest drills unlock as you demonstrate skill — the difficulty ladder adapts, so a struggling learner is never handed a blank box.

"Do this today" deserves a word

It's the block that moves learning off the screen: draft the message, ask the question, try the technique — today, in your real work. The next day's follow-up asks how it went. It's the shortest path from "I understand this" to "I've done this."

Day 7 is different

The seventh day of each week is the "Week N Review" — retrieval-only. No new material; just pulling the week's ideas back out of memory, which is precisely what makes them stick.

Lessons adapt to you

Your quiz accuracy and speed tune what comes next. Cruising through? Lessons firm up. Struggling with a topic? It gets more reinforcement. The difficulty tracks you, not an average user.

XP

Each completed lesson item earns around 50 XP, and the "do this today" follow-up adds +30 — a solid day's engagement lands around 220 XP across lessons, Boosters, and the Daily Practice.

Free tier pacing

On the free tier you get 1 lesson-day per plan week; GapFix Pro unlocks all 7. The full mechanics are in "Free vs Pro: Lesson Pacing."
